Follow Your Passion
God has designed and hardwired you to do a specific assignment for His kingdom in a specific time and place. He has given you the gifting you need. He has placed a passion in your heart to do it. He has hardwired you with the correct style to be successful in the calling He has given you. I heard a new term this week for God’s calling on each individual. One group refers to this calling as one’s “Kingdom Assignment.” I like that term! It well describes what God has made us to do.
God has placed in each one of us a passion. This passion is a vital part of finding your Kingdom Assignment. The simplest way to find your passion is to carefully and honestly answer this one question.
If you could do anything for God, knowing you could not fail, what would you do?
People often discount this question because they think it cannot be a reality. This type of thinking displays a lack of faith in God. Jesus told His followers that they would receive power (Acts 1:8). God promises us that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us and we will have the petitions we desired of Him (I John 5:14-15). Jesus said if we have the faith as a grain of mustard seed we will be able to move mountains (Matthew 17:20). We often try to explain away these verses because we don’t understand them and we try to make them work for us. This area is where modern theology has robbed us. If we just take God’s Word literally and not filter it through a theological system we will understand what God’s kingdom work is and our part in it. Very few believers ever experience the joy and thrill of being empowered by God. This happens only when you are in the place God wants you doing what God has made you to do.
In order to find what God has gifted you and made you to do, follow your passion. If you could do anything for God, what would you do? Be very specific in your answer! God planted in me a passion many years ago to find the power of the Early Church. This group of believers was on fire for God! The lived miracles daily! They experienced the power of God in doing His kingdom work. What did they have that we don’t? God planted this passion in me when I began preaching at the age of 12. I have been following this passion now for 40 years and God has graciously allowed our team to discover the secrets of the Early Church.
I am passionate about the ancient Greek and Hebrew, religious symbols, archaeology, and the history of the Early Church because they allow me to understand the Early Church. They had to understand what God wants the Church to be better than anyone because they were taught by Jesus Himself. My passion is not a hobby or something I like to do. It is my life’s pursuit. I work long hard hours at my business so I can follow my passion. It burns inside of me! The more I do it the hotter that passion burns. I must fulfill my God ordained task in this life.
The Early Church was on fire for God because they followed their God given passion. It burned like a fire that even the powers of mighty Rome could not squelch. They turned the world upside down for Jesus! I long to see the Church have that fire once again!
What is your passion? God has placed one inside of you. He wants you to use that passion to build His kingdom. I pray you will have the joy and thrill of following your passion.
